Corian & Solid Surfaces
Corian (DuPont, 1967) and other solid surface composites combine natural minerals with acrylic resin. The defining features are completely invisible joints, integrated sinks and the ability to thermoform the material around curves.
How it's made
About two-thirds natural minerals (alumina trihydrate) bonded with one-third acrylic resin and pigment, cast into 12mm sheets. Two pieces joined with the manufacturer's adhesive become chemically and visually a single piece — no visible seam.
Suitability
Kitchens
The kitchen of choice when seamless aesthetics or curved islands matter most. Integrated Corian sinks eliminate silicone seals; thermoformed curves need no joins. Scratches and burns can be sanded out by us on a single house visit.
Bathrooms
Dominates the contract hotel and healthcare bathroom market — non-porous, hygienic, repairable and moulded with seamlessly integrated basins. Translucent grades allow backlit spa-style panels.
Outdoors
Standard grades are not UV-stable; use only in fully covered loggias or speak to us about Corian Exteriors. For uncovered patios, porcelain or granite remain the safer choice.
